Boardgames
Ancients is a game with a long history of multiple publishers, which is now freeware. If your appetite is whetted for another hex-based ancients gaming system that adds some additional complexity (compared with Commands & Colors) and you don't mind assembling the game materials by hand, this resource could be for you. It is very actively supported.
Great Battles of Alexander produced by GMT in their GBoH series of games. This is one of the classic grognard games with extensive tactical detail. There are three modules for this game (some out of print).
SPQR produced by GMT in their GBoH series of games. This is also a classic grognard games with extensive tactical detail. There are four modules for this game (almost all out of print).
Caesar: The Civil Wars and Caesar: Conquest of Gaul produced by GMT in their GBoH series of games. These are also classic grognard games with extensive tactical detail. There are four modules (partially shared) by these two games (almost all out of print).
Ancient World: Rise of the Roman Republic produced by GMT as the first volume of a projected monster series of ancient history. A serious, detailed game of vast scope. The second game in the series, covering the Punic Wars, is in playtest. For an exciting and thoroughly readable presentation of how the game works, see Pat Hirtle's Ancient World web site.
